For someone in intensive care

Lord of life, we are in a place of machines and monitors, and the person we love is somewhere behind all of it. You see them. You know them by name, not by chart number.

Be present in every beep and breath. Give the doctors and nurses wisdom as they make decisions hour by hour. Hold back what is dangerous, strengthen what is weak, and surround this bed with your peace even in the noise.

For us who wait, give rest in short pieces and courage to ask questions. Let us touch their hand and speak to them as if they hear us. We ask for recovery. And in every hour until then, we ask that you not leave. Amen.
